Lochside Follies Facilities

Web Links

The Lochside Follies are situated in eighty acres of varied rugged countryside dedicated to natural regeneration. Over the years we have developed rough footpaths that lead you through hazel woods, ancient oak glades and on up to breathtaking panoramic views over heather-covered hills or down to the shore of Loch Sunart, where the ebbing tide leaves rock pools full of interest for all. Our grounds are home to all manner of wildlife and a huge variety of bird life. Wild flowers and rare lichens flourish in the sheltered, unpolluted air and the temperate climate.

Closer to home we have created games rooms and activities for our visitors to enjoy. At the east end of our home, the games room houses a slate bed 3/4 size snooker table (also with pool balls) to while away an hour or two, with a removable table tennis top for the more energetic.

Alternatively, burn off some calories in the mini gym above the workshop and then wind down reliving a mis-spent youth with a game of darts.

We have two lovely easy to ride road bikes for you to borrow. Leave the car at home and discover Ardnamurchan at a slower pace. The fascinating Ardnamurchan Natural Visitor Centre is a pleasant cycle ride away.

Finally, Richard has mown a rudimentary 6 hole pitch and putt course, we have a few clubs for you to try your hand!

Lochside Follies are ideally situated for exploring the Ardnamurchan peninsula which stretches out to become the most westerly point on the British mainland. A visit to the lighthouse and visitor centre (open April- October) is a must, especially on a windy day! The beaches at Sanna, Portuairk and Ardtoe are fascinating for all ages while the ruined Castle Tioram and Mingary Castle viewed from a distance offer a glimpse of the turbulent history of the area. West of us, north of Kilchoan, is the base of a huge volcano which erupted 60 million years ago, which makes this area a mecca for geologists and is the reason that the scenery of the area is so unusual and dramatic.

Relax at the slower pace of Highland life, breathe in the fresh air of the hills about you, and unwind in accommodation full of character .....

..... a warm welcome awaits you in the Tower, the Ruin, the Folly and now the Loft!

Smoking Policy

As of January 2010 all our properties are NO SMOKING.

Green Policy
Although we are not members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme (which is ludicrously expensive) we are very keen on reducing the impact that our business has on the environment.

Where possible materials were sourced locally for the construction of the buildings, the Tower under-floor heating is run from our wood-burning stove and all the logs are either sourced locally or coppiced from our own woods.

Where possible all the white goods have an 'A' energy rating and low energy light bulbs are used where possible. When a manufacturer produces low energy light bulbs that are dimmable we will be buying them in bulk !

We encourage our visitors to recycle glass, cans and papers and we take these to the collection points in conjunction with other car journeys and we are changing to use more environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Visitors are encouraged to use the local shops and bakery, to compost fruit, veg and teabag waste, and to use the two bicycles provided.

Babies and Toddlers

Unfortunately, due to the layout and size of both The Tower and The Ruin, babies and toddlers in cots cannot be accommodated. However a baby can be accommodated in The Folly and The Loft. See The Folly page.
